About Insulin Pump Treatment

Insulin pump treatment provides better control for your Type 2 diabetes. What are the advantages of MiniMed pump therapy over daily injections?

    Instead of using long-acting insulin injections, the MiniMed pump continuously delivers only rapid-acting insulin which is absorbed more predictably.
    Multiple injections per day can mean more than 120-150 insulin injections per month. With insulin pump treatment, you only have to insert your infusion set 2 to 3 times a week.
    With MiniMed pump treatment, you have flexibility to go on outings without worrying about injections. When you are taking your meal, just push a button on the pump to bolus, anywhere you are.

MiniMed® Insulin Pump

The MiniMed pump is an external device about the size of a small mobile phone that you can easily carry on a belt, place inside a pocket or wear under your clothes. The pump delivers insulin in a continuous and precise flow through a thin, flexible tube called an infusion set. The end of this tube sits comfortably under the skin and is replaced every two to three days.

  • Basal Insulin
    You can programme your pump to continuously deliver tiny and precise amounts of insulin 24 hours a day. This is called the basal rate. It helps you maintain normal sugar levels between meals and overnight. Your baseline insulin needs may fluctuate throughout the day and the pump can match that with different basal rates.
  • Bolus / Meal Insulin
    You can deliver additional insulin, called a bolus dose, to cover meals and to correct a high blood-glucose reading.

Did you know?

You can easily disconnect and reconnect the pump from your body whenever you want to. This can be helpful, for example when you want to swim, shower or you want intimacy.
